LG Innotek has set out to expand the UV (ultraviolet ray) LED market. The company plans to actively promote the formation of the UV LED industry ecosystem by driving the momentum of securing the world’s best UV LED technology.

LG Innotek announced that it will hold the ‘UV LED Forum’ on March 7th at the LG Science Park Integrated Support Center, Magok Joongang 10-ro Gangseo-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is the first UV LED event in Korea to understand the latest technologies and products and explore the related application fields.

UV LED is an advanced semiconductor light source that emits ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 200 to 400 nanometers (nm). It eliminates germs and viruses and is used for the surface, water, and air disinfection, healthcare, medical care, biotechnology, and curing and lithography equipment.

Beginning with the “UV LED Forum”, LG Innotek will cooperate with competent domestic companies and actively explore new products that use UV LED. After this, it plans to expand the UV LED ecosystem globally through international forums such as those held in Japan and China.

LG Innotek’s “UV LED Forum” will be held under a theme, “Opening Clean Future with UV LED” with the following two sessions: ▲UV LED Technology and Business and ▲Partnership Program.

In the “UV LED Technology and Business” session, academic experts such as Professor Dong-Hyeon Kang of College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Seoul National University, and Professor Ji-Bum Lee of Chonnam National University Medical School as well as industry representatives such as Woo-Chul Hwang, the research center head of Ecoset, a water treatment equipment manufacturer, and Kyoung-Yeon Kim, CEO of Clearwin, a multi-use facility interior company, will introduce the results of UV LED performance tests and commercialization examples.

In the “Partnership Program” session, June-O Song, the vice president of LG Innotek’s LED business unit, will explain the UV LED products and business roadmap. In particular, LG Innotek plans to announce its support plans for UV LED business at the venue, targeting small and medium-sized partners.

There will be a separate UV LED exhibition hall at the forum on the day. It will showcase 30 types of UV LED packages for different optical powers and wavelengths, such as 100mW UV-C LED, as well as independently developed products such as sterilization modules and other applied products. On-site business consultation will be also held at the exhibition hall.

LG Innotek proved its world-best technology by developing 100mW UV-C LED in November last year, which is two years earlier than expected by the industry. This powerful UV LED sterilizes the surface of objects as well as water and air.

“This is an innovative product that can make our lives cleaner, safer and more convenient,” said a representative from the company. He also added, “This forum is a great opportunity to see the value and potential of UV LEDs and find ways to cooperate with our partners.”
