LG Innotek’s (CEO: Hur Young-ho) Photo Etching technology has earned global recognition for its excellence.
 
LG Innotek recently announced that it had earned a prize (Material Award) at the iF Design Awards 2010, one of the top three international design contests, for an exterior material in a sophisticated design where the Photo Etching tech – a decoration method to carve a flower or other delicate patterns to the surface of electronic appliances – has been applied.
 
Photo Etching is a technique for separating segments which have received UV rays from those involving none, and decays them by exposing metal surfaces to light. This technique allows the formation of highly accurate and delicate patterns, so it is useful for etching minute circuits destinedfor high-tech components.
 
The company has applied this technology to glass (eX-Cera), stainless steel (eX-Meta) and film (eX-Pol), impressing – for the first time in the worldprecise, delicate, nanometer and micronsized lines onto the surfaces of TV sets, refrigerators and other appliances, enhancing the beauty of their exterior appearance.
 
The design method known as eX-Meta has been applied to “Shine”, a brand of fridge famous for flower patterns designed by Ha Sang-rim.eX-Meta is characterized by its ability to maximize the gradation effect by giving a subtle width and angle to lines engraved on stainless steel.
 
An official at LG Innotek said, “This award served as an opportunity to let the world know about our Photo Etching technology and raise customerconfidence in our products. The company is planning to expand its business sphere by means of aggressive marketing activities not only in the market for exterior materials for electric appliances, but also in the market for interior and exterior construction and furniture materials, as well as the global home appliance market”.
 
The awarded products will be displayed concurrently at the Material TRENDS Expo held in Hannover, Germany from April 19~23 and on ‘iF Web Gallery’ at http://www.ifdesign.de.
