As part of their bid to develop and study components and materials in joint cooperation with the academia, LG Innotek and LG Micron signed an agreement with Hanyang University on February 2 to establish a research center.
Under the agreement, the two companies will receive from Hanyang University a plot of land covering 5,000 pyeong (one pyeong equals 3.3 square meters) for the research center for 25 years of free lease.
The location is within the university’s Ansan Campus. After the free lease, the research center will be donated to the university.
The two companies will foster the research center as a components research complex for LG, and create an academic, research, and industry- coordinated cluster for components and materials in joint cooperation with Gyeonggi Techno Park and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, among other institutes, in relevant areas.
We will increase cooperation with components/materials makers in the Banwol and Sihwa Industrial Complexes to beef up our network.
Through this project, LG Innotek and LG Micron plan to open a contract-based electronics engineering department at Hanyang University, foster talented individuals, and secure superior R&D manpower in advance.
The construction of the research center will be completed by June 2006.
