with Korea Institute of Chemical Technology On January 15, LG Innotek signed LED Phosphor Technology and Business Agreement with Korea Institute of Chemical Technology (KICT), and held the signing ceremony at KICT headquarters.

With the agreement, LG Innotek will obtain patent technology usage right for phosphor for white LED from KICT.

The company will also request development of non-YAG phosphor and R(red) G(green) B(blue) phosphor production technologies to KICT.

Because white LED is currently delivered by combining blue LED and yellow phosphor, to secure market competitive edge by offering unique and differentiated white LED, development of Non-YAG phosphor that can substitute YAG phosphor is urgently required.

The agreement with KICT will mean that LG Innotek now has non-YAG phosphor needed for making white LED, thereby becoming no longer subject to patent restrictions on white LED exercised by leading companies and allowing it to secure competitive edge in white LED market.

KICT was established in 1976 and is one of leading chemical technology research lab in Korea famous for developing "Oxy Clean" and "multi- crystallized" silicon production process among others.

[Reference] YAG (yttrium aluminum garnet): Refers to the oxidization of yttrium and aluminum. It is a phosphor with high quantum efficiency.
