The chief purpose of using automobiles is to move quickly, accurately and comfortably to faraway destinations. Yet, there is a more important objective: passenger safety. Even for the most skilled driver, coping with unpredictable and unexpected incidents on the road—such as the ever-changing traffic conditions, pedestrians and numerous vehicles—is difficult. Moreover, driver safety is often threatened when things are difficult to recognize with the naked eye, including roads where nothing is visible due to thick fog, or traffic-sign-violating motorcycle drivers whizzing by at high speeds.

These same concerns apply to autonomous vehicles as well. Sensing solutions such as LiDAR, camera modules, and RADAR, which, instead of the driver’s eyes, become the “eyes” of the vehicle recognizing the surroundings of the vehicle in all directions. Thanks to these sensors, drivers are now provided with extra safety support more than ever. In addition, autonomous vehicles will come equipped with vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication to increase safety. This automotive communication system incorporates more specific types of communication such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication that informs the driver of traffic conditions ahead and approaching vehicles, vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication that communicates with traffic infrastructure such as traffic lights, and vehicle to pedestrian (V2P) communication that supports pedestrian information. With these communication solutions, autonomous vehicles will be communicate with various road users, recognize things, and respond to emergency situations more quickly on the road, thereby ensuring the safety of the passengers.

The development of autonomous driving communication technology not only allows for communication outside the vehicle such as V2X, but also leads to the development of infotainment inside the vehicle, providing consumers with a more convenient and new driving experience.
