LG Innotek (CEO Ung-Beom Lee) said on November 7 that it has started in earnest business operation with wireless charging modules, which support both wireless charging and wireless local area communications. It has started mass production of ultrathin wireless charging module last September.

A wireless module can be divided into the transmission part, which serves to transmit power, and the reception part that is installed on smartphones. Of these, the wireless charging reception module that is installed in the smartphone has been integrated with wireless local area communication function to come up with the new module.

Recently, wireless charging modules that are thinner than conventional ones were introduced to the market, but LG Innotek’s reception module is the first in the world that integrates a wireless charging module with wireless local area communication in an ultrathin form.

The new module has been developed by integrating LG Innotek’s technology in RF (Radio Frequency), Power, and materials fields, and the thickness of the product has been cut in more than half from the conventional ones to less than 0.5 mm.

While the conventional products use Flexible Printed Circuit Boards or Winding Coil for the charging coil, the new module adopts ultrathin Pattern Coil that uses a Substrate material for semiconductors, thus achieving high efficiency and ultra-slim design.

Smartphones that adopt LG Innotek’s reception modules have earned recognition for their values through validation in related fields. As for the charging function, the module is compatible with Qi, the international wireless charging standard, which is presented by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). As for wireless local area communications, it won certification from Master Card.

Meanwhile, LG Innotek will continue to expand its Gwangju Plant into a production base for wireless charging modules.
