LG Innotek (CEO by Ung-Beom Lee) held a kick-off ceremony for its ‘Hope Mentoring’ program and camp designed to support children from multicultural families at the ‘Seoul English Village Pungnap Camp’ in the Songpa district of Seoul on May 19.

More than sixty children, along with LG Innotek executives and staff serving as coaches and mentors, took part in the kick-off ceremony for the mentoring program, which marks its third anniversary this year.

The kick-off ceremony signaled the beginning of a two-day camp designed to help mentors and mentees establish good working relationships before the Hope Mentoring activities get under way.

During the two-day event, the participants had an opportunity to learn about each other, acquire a better understanding of the benefits of multiculturalism, and build up their sense of affinity. They also set up specific goals and plans for the mentoring program, which will run for the next six months from May to October.

LG Innotek’s Hope Mentoring program was conceived as a participatory corporate social responsibility program with the aim of providing emotional support to children from multicultural families and helping them grow up as healthy members of Korean society. The annual program was launched in 2010 in collaboration with the Korea Foundation for Women.

This year’s mentees have been selected by the company’s head office and six domestic worksites and will be matched with twenty-one mentors from the Company.

Kim Dong-Joo, 32, an LG Innotek staffer participating in the program for the third time since 2010, said, “I am proud to be able to serve as the supporter of a child from a multicultural family by forming a relationship with him and helping him to nurture his dreams.”

As well as this program, LG Innotek holds the Green Energy Camp and the Science Leaders’ Club at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology for children from multicultural families. The Company will continue striving to help such children understand the positive aspects of multicultural families and develop their characters and aptitudes so they can make their dreams come true.”
