LG Innotek (CEO Young Ho, Hur) held a commencement ceremony for its “Hope Mentoring” program, under which executives, staff members and children from multicultural families engaged in one-on-one mentoring, at Grace Hall near Seolleung Station in Seoul on December 11th, 2010.
More than twenty children from multicultural families who had participated in the program, as well as twenty executives and staff members, and ten company executives who had served as coaches attended the commencement ceremony for the program, reflecting on their joint activities and achievements.
In an event held to commemorate the time they had spent together, mentors, mentees and coaches jointly made hand prints.
LG Innotek conducts the “Hope Mentoring” program, one of its corporate social responsibility activities, jointly with the Korean Foundation for Women. Both company executives and staff members participate in the program, which is designed to help children from multicultural families understand cultural diversity between countries and to help them smoothly adapt to Korean society, by providing emotional and mental support.
Since August, the Hope Mentoring program has conducted mentoring activities on various topics of interest, including families, school life, and career development, while executives and staff members (mentors) and children of multicultural families (mentees) have engaged in one-on-one meetings.
Also, twelve executives and staff members, all of whom have completed professional coaching training programs, served as coaches, helping the children to develop their potential and fulfill their vision.
At the commencement ceremony, LG Innotek provided scholarships to all the participating children of multicultural families. The company also selected five mentees who showed excellence during the program, and gave them and their parents a chance to visit the motherland of their foreign parents, including China, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
Company staff member Soo Yeon, Bae, who served as a mentor, said, “I have realized that my mentee was no different from other children growing up in Korea,” adding, “Through mentoring, I had an opportunity to think more and mature mentally.”
LG Innotek plans to proactively support the children of multicultural families by providing practical support from now on, in a bid to help them develop a proper sense of identity and grow up strong and healthy.
