LG Innotek (CEO Young Ho, Hur) and Pohang University of Science and Technology (President Seong Gi, Baek) will engage in industry-academia cooperation to jointly develop technology and cultivate human resources.
LG Innotek announced on November 23rd that it had held a signing ceremony for an industry-academia cooperation agreement with POSTECH for the development of optics and display parts technology, and the cultivation of professional resources, at POSTECH’s headquarters in Nam-gu, Pohang-si on November 23. In attendance at the ceremony were LG Innotek CEO Young Ho, Hur and POSTECH President Seong Gi, Baek.
Through its industry-academia cooperation programs with POSTECH, LG Innotek aims to secure core fundamental technology and customized professional human resources on a stable basis.
The two sides plan to form a technology exchange forum by forming a steering committee to ensure seamless operation of the agreement. They also plan to conduct more than three joint industry-academia projects per year, and resolve technological tasks concerning the optics and display parts (and other parts and materials) industry.
Furthermore, the two sides plan to select 10 to 15 master and doctorate program students as beneficiaries of industry-academia cooperation scholarships every year for five years. Additionally, they plan to recruit around ten undergraduate students for internship per year.
Under this agreement, POSTECH aims to contribute to the development two organizations, and expedite innovation in science and technology in order to boost its competitiveness as a university.
An LG Innotek official said, “The agreement has started foundations for the company to ensure growth through the acquisition of core technologies and talented human resources,” adding, “By cooperating with POSTECH, we will be able to boost our competitiveness as a global specialized manufacturer of electronic parts.”
LG Innotek had already signed industry-academia cooperation agreements with Korea University in 2009, KAIST, Sogang University, and with Yeungnam University in 2010.
LG Innotek has continued to invest in research on future technologies and their commercialization, while stepping up its efforts to mass produce LEDs, an eco-friendly lighting source, in the optical and display business sector.
