LG Innotek (CEO: Young Ho, Hur) runs an eco-friendly camp for multicultural families.
The company organized the Green Energy Camp from Sept. 11~12 in ‘Pure Squirrel Village’, Guemsangun, Chungcheongnamdo, Korea.
This camp, in which 40 multi-cultural children and parents who live around LG Innotek’s Cheongju factory participated, was designed to provide an opportunity to experience the value of nature and its energy by making use of alternative energies that can be extracted from nature.
“We hope the public will recognize how valuable the energy sources we casually consume in our daily life are, and cultivate some affection for nature, with this camp,” said an official at LG Innotek.
The participants enjoyed some quality time making ‘Eco T-shirts’ using the pattern of leaves, as well as performing in a ‘Play in the Woods’ where they could express trees and insects with their body motions, and experiencing how energy is generated by bicycles. By the end of the camp, they were already getting closer to nature and gaining a better understanding of alternative energy sources.
In accordance with thecamp’s rule of having to pay with ‘carbon money’ to use electricity or water, they learned how to reduce their use of electric appliances such as mobile phones and minimize their consumption of water.
The participants were allowed to buy wild edible greens or mixed grains with the ‘carbon money,’ which heightened their interest in the program.
“It is awesome that I can produce energy by spinning bicycle wheels” said Sin Hwa-jeong, a participant in the camp, “I came to the conclusion that I should save energy even when taking a shower or using the bathroom”.
The camp program will be run onfiveoccasions for multi-cultural children living in areas where LG Innotek operates (i.e., the HQ, and the Gwangju, Gumi, Ansan, Osan, Cheongju and Paju factories) until this November, in association with the “Forests of Life” run by the Forest Community Foundation and “Fruits of Love” run by CHEST.
Startingthis year, LG Innotek is using ‘Support for Multi-cultural Families’ as the main theme of its social contribution activities, and is running – in parallel with the Green Energy Camp – a Mentoring of Hope program in which the company’s employees participate as mentors for children from multi-cultural families.
