LG Innotek (CEO Ung-Beom Lee) and Yonsei University (President Kap-young Jeong) is starting industry-academic cooperation for joint development of technology and human resources in the field of high-tech parts and materials.
LG Innotek and Yonsei University held an inaugural ceremony to launch the “Next-Generation Parts & Materials Industry-Academia Cooperation Center” at the Science College at the university in Seoul’s Seodaemun district on June 24. In attendance at the ceremony were LG Innotek CEO Ung-beom Lee and Yonsei University President Kap-young Jeong.
In December last year, LG Innotek and Yonsei University signed an industry-academia cooperation agreement on the development of high-tech parts and materials and professional human resources in the field of LED and optics.
The two sides plan to collaborate to develop core and fundamental technologies and quality human resources customized for industry through various industry-academia cooperation programs.
The two sides will operate a technology exchange council to ensure seamless implementation of the agreement. Additionally, they will conduct at least two industry-academia projects yearly, and address technological challenges related to parts and materials concerning LED and optics.
Moreover, LG Innotek will select recipients of industry-academia scholarships from the master and doctorate programs every year and provide scholarships for five years.
A source at LG Innotek said, “The agreement will help lay the foundation to achieve growth through development of core technologies and acquisition of human resources,” adding, “By banking on reciprocal cooperation with Yonsei University, we expect to further strengthen our competiveness in high-tech parts and materials.’
LG Innotek signed industry-academia cooperation agreements with Korea University in 2009, and with KAIST, Sogang University, and POSTECH in 2010.
The Company has made constant investments in research on future technologies, including LED and optics, thermo and electro-conducting devices, and electrical parts, and their commercialization.
