– To ensure mutual benefits and strengthen cooperation with business partners
– To establish a joint cooperation framework for the development of environmentally friendly parts

LG Innotek (CEO: Young-Ho Hur, www.lginnotek.com) and the Gwangju– Jeonnam Regional Office of Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA, Head: Sun Ho Jang) held a ceremony for the Agreement on Joint Support for Small and Medium Businesses to develop environment-friendly parts. The event, held at the Gwangju–Jeonnam Regional Office, was attended by CEOs from LG Innotek’’s business partners and the two companies’ employees in charge of quality control.

Both LG Innotek and Gwangju–Jeonnam SMBA mutually agreed on the importance of international environment regulations and the production of environment-friendly parts. They have also decided to actively support an important study on the potentially environmentally-hazardous substances contained in the parts supplied by LG Innotek’’s business partners.

CEO Young-Ho Hur said, "This is LG Innotek’s contribution to the preservation of the natural environment. To do this, we will develop and supply environmentally friendly products by strengthening our hazardous substance management system, starting from the parts development stage."

This is the unprecedented case in Korea in terms of agreement from such a large company like LG Innotek to support and cooperate with the regional office of the SMBA in order to secure mutual benefits to, and support the parties involved.

As advanced countries, including those in the EU, have stipulated stronger enforcement on substances considered environmental hazards in consumer goods such as electric and electronic products, LG Innotek has agreed to conduct the analysis and exams of the supplied parts in cooperation with the regional SMBA for its subcontractors to be able to meet the rules and regulations of environmental evaluation for the parts.

The Gwangju–Jeonnam Regional Office of SMBA agreed to provide the laboratory room and equipment to analyze environmentally-hazardous substances such as Pb, Hg, Cd, Cr, PBB and PBDE, which are the six substances mentioned in the EU’’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive.

LG Innotek will take charge of providing the specialists responsible for running the laboratory and producing reference materials. All the parts supplied by LG Innotek’’s business partners will be analyzed, accordingly.

Data on the environmental impact of the analyzed parts will be shared between the two parties. In case that any needs arise to have the part improved in light of environmental issues, in an effort to comply with RoHS, then LG Innotek and the Regional SMBA will establish a joint cooperation system to develop the replacement materials.

In addition, LG Innotek and the Regional SMBA have agreed to hold regular meetings to share analysis data, and to continue their joint technical cooperation in connection with the requirements from the clients of LG Innotek.
