LG Innotek (CEO: Young-Ho Hur, www.lginnotek.com) is announcing its 2nd generation digital tuner targeted for the European market.
LG Innotek completed its latest SMD-Type 2cc micro DVB-T confrontation NIM tuner development. This micro-miniature product is 38 x 20 x 2.7mm and has minimized tuner power consumption by 550MW. Also, this product allows for normal use in areas where only feeble signals can be received and is suitable for products such as notebooks, USB receivers, etc.
Last year witnessed the launch of our previous European-style digital NIM tuner that was the pride of the industry; encompassing a minimized style at that time which founded miniaturized technology necessary for notebook DVB-T tuners and spurred further tuner development for vehicles.
LG Innotek’s DVB-S2 NIM tuner for HD degree satellite, which began production last August, constitutes an industry-leading product that was first-to-market. This tuner is currently used in DVB-S2 Set-Top boxes supplied to DirectTV, the foremost digital satellite broadcasting company in the United States of America.
This tuner features high durability and resistance to calorification due to its custom design focusing on heat-dissipation and with functions such as “high digital tuner” which corresponds to the latest DVB-S2 transmission mode.
LG Innotek secured the American satellite digital dispatch market through this product; furthermore, as the development of corresponding tuners, which conform to European standards (another primary market), approaches completion we anticipate considerable gains in the European satellite broadcasting market; especially in light of the FIFA World Cup Tournament occurring later this year.
In addition, LG Innotek plans to broaden its tuner product line this year with a diverse range of new tuner modules that will support all available transmission modes. Some examples include a micro/ultra-light Mobile tuner and a composition tuner that can control all functions from signal receiving to signal reproduce.
An LG Innotek company official states, “Digital tuners from LG Innotek, unveiled in October of last year, grossed stellar sales; at the beginning of this year, gross sales were 3 times that of the previous year,” and, “Our technical skill in this field rose to the point where we are looking beyond conventional tuners. The main goal of this year is all of digital television’s major extensions, including Mobile.”
